Harold Shand is a crime kingpin in a relative time of peace between South London and the East End. With politicians and police on the payroll and a marriage to a well-dressed society girl Victoria, he is as close to legit as a gangster gets.

It’s Good Friday and Harold has some Americans in town for some business. This morning, his mum’s chauffeur was blown up in the Rolls, his good friend Colin was knifed to death and there was a bomb found in one of his casinos. In his words, “It’s a diabolical liberty, but who would try to muscle in?”
